I wanted to love this book. It started out well enough, I liked the cover and the blurb sounded interesting. My problem with this book is that it needs a good edit. I found the consistent errors to eventually be bad enough that they were distracting. I think this author has something special and if this book got a good line edit, her talent might be showcased much better. I wasn't crazy about the names of the lead characters either. Maybe this is just me, but if I have to keep stopping and trying to figure out how to pronounce the name of the main character, it draws me away from the story. I truly think with a little polishing this could be great.

Starfire Angels Melanie Nilles 9781448631346 Books Reviews

Another incredibly selfish and stupid heroine, so self absorbed one wonders how she even notices the world around her, much less the visions or another reality that come to her. Quick to lie to those she loves, just to save herself embarrasment, she is slow to accept help in dealing with her new powers - and her guardians are even slower to offer it. By now we don't care - either abiut her or the silly villains who are after her. Thankfully, the volume came to an end before the story. We will not be buying the sequel.
Although there was something a bit off-putting about the writing style of this story, I liked it very much. It started a little slow, but it got pretty intense, and it had a good ring of credibility to it. I think the thing that I found difficult about the writing was that thoughts were not easily separated from narration, and the point of view jumped from one character to the next. Still, there was a pleasant absence of mistakes that proved that the author had gone to the trouble of doing a thorough job of editing and proof reading. Certainly a worthwhile read.
This is a romance that I enjoy reading and which means it doesn't come with a formula. It has some wonderful character development and builds up nicely, but I felt there were places where the story jumped emotional tracks a bit too quickly. Then again, teenagers aren't exactly known for their stability in this area so that could be accurately written. The bad guy is shown to be very bad, but only past the magical point when he turns into possible marriage material into the Nasty Evil Bad Guy. I thought he was a relatively decent villain in the story, but really didn't complement the hero and heroine as well as I hoped. I also felt he turned a bit stupid near the end, which is fine for the story but didn't give me a satisfying end.

The world development ended up thrilling me. I like the "us verses them" and everyone lying to show their point of view. The manipulation of humans, the press for the "better story" of the nosy reporter, and everything else built up to a nice story. There are multiple languages, though notationally translated, which I like since I prefer stories when everyone doesn't speak perfect English. The grammar structure of the aliens was a bit too... broken for me. Almost forced when it could have been done with a slightly different structure and still given a flair for the exotic.

The writing style is nice, but not as tight as I wanted it to be. Some of the descriptions came off a bit rough to me and there were a few turns of phrase that pulled me out of the story. but only in a few places. Outside of those points, I found myself reading it easily and it held a nice cadence of style that I finished it in a few hours. And, since I consider reading speed to be one of those things I use to measure my ability to get lost into it, I liked it.
This book was unusual because it wasn't the typical Vampire, Werewolf, or Demon tween paranormal romance. I was wondering from the description about "Angels" whether it would have religious aspects, but soon found that it did not.

There were the usual editing errors that Spell-Check won't catch, but nothing too distracting. I actually liked the plot premise, and thought that several of the characters were nicely developed. Unfortunately, I didn't have much liking or much sympathy for the Heroine. I would have enjoyed the book much more if I had.

It was OK. Quick read, and the action was good in parts. I think the idea behind this world and race of 'Angels' was intriguing. However, for me, it didn't quite reach its potential.
SPOILERS

This book had an interesting premise and was at times an engaging read, but it's badly in need of an edit to correct multiple misused words (lightening instead of lightning, poor instead of pour, peaked instead of peeked, and the list goes on, since the author apparently has great difficulty telling contractions from sound-alike words), and while the action was vividly described, it seemed at times rushed, especially at the end. I also disliked the trite plot devices of the boy next door/girl next door being perfect for each other but one of them is completely oblivious about it and is in fact initially repelled by the other, and I knew with as much emphasis as was being placed on her not wanting to bring her wings out she'd end up doing it for the guy she initially reviled but fell in love with anyway. Still, I think this writer has potential, and I'm willing to try another book to see if she improves with practice.
I loved this book! It was so good! It's about this girl that discovers she is some kind of "Dark Angel" and a guy at school is too so they just chill for a while when some guy named Pallin comes along and him and Raea date for a few days and then bad things happen and Elis and Raea get back together BUT NOT AS FRIENDS THIS TIME! (gasp) and yeah that's about it but IT WAS SOO GOOD I would recommend teens read it btw.
