My daughter is three and this was her favorite book for months.... We played snook alone, read it every night.... We had it out from the library, but bought it because it is truly a favorite in our house. I wouldn't have thought she would have had the attention span for it, so I am so glad we chanced upon it. Just one 'scary' part with a shark that I just modify when I read it. She is young, and pretty sensitive when it comes to animal stories... Wonderful vocabulary, and very poetic. I loved reading it to her.

... I have a rat terrier and adore the breed. This book's illustrations are perfect, gorgeous and wonderful representations of a rattie being a rattie--and yes, they are always this lively and cheerful! But I also loved the story and the writing, a lovely prose poem. I disagree with the reviewer who said that it wasn't an appropriate picture book as the writing and vocabulary were too high a level. In my experience, while being read to, kids don't care if they understand every word, and as this is poetic, I'm sure it'd be a delight for the adult reading and the child being read to.
"Snook Alone" is about a dog and his owner and he loses his owner and then finds his owner again. Snook and his owner love each other very much.

I think kids would like it because it's about a dog that tries to make the best of when he is alone and he's waiting for his owner.

I think other kids would enjoy it more if they were old enough to actually understand the words.

My favorite part is when Snook is with Abba Jacob and they are praying and sleeping and cleaning toilets together.

Snook alone on the island tried to make the best of it until his friend (owner) Abba Jacob returned. He didn't just stay sad and think, "I'm not going to have any fun."

Even though there were a lot of difficult words, it was still great!

The paintings and drawings in this book are true art and I look at them over and over again. I bought this book because I have a rat terrier. It's about a dog left alone on an island for some time until his master can come back and get him. I think it might be too sad or scary for people under, say, 5 or 6. It's poetically written (not in rhyme) and is a very satisfying book that I re-read and have shared with others.
